A toupee, a crutch, a pair of glasses and a pair of pants – those were just a handful of the items employees from Cappagh Browne found during a recent beach clean on Hastings beach!
A team of 10 volunteers from the team were out in force with litter pickers and bin bags on Hastings beach and prom, collecting 12 bags full of rubbish in just three hours.
Cappagh Browne’s MD Jeff Birtwhistle said: “We couldn’t quite believe how much rubbish we collected in such a short space of time. It’s mind-boggling the things that people leave behind for someone else to pick up, and it seems the nice weather had encouraged people to have parties the night before on the beach. Though how someone forgot to take their crutch home, I’m not quite sure!
“Cappagh Browne has been working in the Hastings area for some time – including carrying out repairs to the outfall on the beach, which we completed earlier this year – and many of our team live locally too, so we’re always happy to lend a hand and get involved in our community.”
Barry Woodham, customer stakeholder manager, said: “We really appreciated residents and business owners thanking us for taking the time out to pick up litter. It obviously meant a lot to them, so that made it matter all the more to us.”
In January, Hastings town centre experienced flooding and Cappagh Browne has since completed repairs to a pipe on the beach in a measure to prevent further issues.
